I was in Nikko on one of the possibly coldest day of the year immediately following the new year holidays. Needless to say, none of the expected hordes of tourists materialized. I practically had the whole place to myself! The temples were all lightly covered with snow with more snow quietly drifting from the sky and I was totally in love with the serenity of the atmostphere.
